Yes, the 7mm nut behind the gauge is either missing or loose. Try tightening it. If the problem is still there, you will need a refurbished main circuit board and SI board.

There is nothing wrong with your tach, most likely. Of the hundreds of clusters I have rebuilt, I've never seen the tach itself fail. 99% of the time the non working tach is a failed SI board.
