I found using a long screw driver worked well to lever the ball all the way on the socket and if you put the spring click around the neck of the socket as pictured above, it should be easy to push it down in to place with the same screw driver. Either way Im glad you got it done.

Who's next ?

I am almost ashamed to admit how novice this question makes me sound but maybe others will benefit from it. As Jeff knows, I picked up some of the deck cover struts recently and am just barely getting "back into" car stuff after school and work took priority for the better part of last decade, so here it goes.

How do I remove the existing struts? Jeff said not to use vice grips. I just don't have any experience with push nuts or whatever these are secured with.

TIA.

The deck lids struts are held in by a tiny c clip. Pry it off with a small screw driver or J hook butnhold your hand there so it doesn't fly off.

Push nuts are only on the seats

Well it certainly helps to have sufficient light...and clean pins. After I cleaned a little grime off finding the c-clamps and the installation was easy as pie. Thanks again for the info!
